CLBC Policy Orientation Sessions

We are very excited about the new CLBC policy “Behavioural Support and Safety Planning” and the revision to the Critical Incidents Policy. To support the new CLBC policy initiatives we are offering a series of 1/2 day orientation training sessions to staff and agencies regarding the implementation of the policies in everyday practice.

The following orientation and information sessions are designed to assist you and your agency to develop internal policies and procedures that are consistent with the Behavioural Support and Safety Planning Policy and the companion Guide for Service Providers as well as the revised Critical Incidents Policy.

Orientation Format

Presentation Style: Lecture and guided participation in the form of group work, illustrative exercises and examples and group discussion.

Session Length: Half Day (3 - 3.5hrs)

Location:

For groups of 20 or less, sessions will be held at the Behavioral Solutions, Inc. Head Office (Surrey).

For groups of 20 or more, sessions dates as well as location are negotiable.

Cost:

Each half-day session is $50 per person plus GST. Payable by credit card or cheque.

Session 1: Behavioural Support and Safety Planning Policy Orientation and Information session

  1. Details on the policy itself,
  2. How it affects service delivery and practice
  3. Expectations of service providers and CLBC staff
  4. Collaboration with professionals

Session 2: The Behaviour Support and Safety Planning: A Guide for Service Providers

  1. Identify the key roles and responsibilities of service providers in the following areas:
    1. Training
    2. Supervision
    3. Behaviour Support, Planning, Intervention and Review
    4. Functional Assessment
    5. Behaviour Interventions
    6. Safety Planning
    7. Restricted and Prohibited Practices

Session 3: Critical Incident Policy, Safety and Emergency Planning

  1. Integrating the new critical incident policy with the new Behavioural Support and Safety Planning Policy
  2. Overview of the roles and responsibilities of service providers and CLBC staff
  3. How Critical Incidents may trigger Behavioural Safety Planning
  4. The value of prevention

Session 4: Overview of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)

  1. Define ABA and its assumptions
  2. How ABA is a foundation of PBS
  3. What is function,  and how to assess it?
  4. Understanding the difference between “support” and ”care”
  5. What is Data, why is it critical to effective support?
  6. Information on Functional Communication techniques

It is highly recommended that all interested agencies attend the full series. Attendance in any of the sessions first requires completion of the Behavioural Support and Safety Planning Policy Orientation and Information session.

Dates shown below are when a session may be available. However, actual delivery of each session remains subject to an adequate number of enrolled attendees. Therefore, we highly recommend that you select several dates for which you are available. We will contact you to confirm your attendance in a class once enrollment reaches the required levels for class delivery.

If interested in the full sequence of 4 sessions, we require you attend them in the order they are listed (from 1-4), however, you may take them at any of the following times. For example, you may take sessions 1 & 2 in November and finish sessions 3 & 4 in December. Check back for additional training opportunities in 2010.
